Nokia and Doordarshan sign up for mobile TV

January 5, 2007

From online TV to TV on the mobile phone. After exhorting consumers to dispense with their music players, cameras and video recorders, mobile phone makers now want users to add TV to the list of gadgets they want deposited in the recycle bin. Nokia has announced a DVB-H broadcast mobile TV pilot with trusted old Doordarshan. The pilot is set to take off in early 2007 and will be delivered to Doordarshan by SHAF Broadcast, a Mumbai-based digital content solutions provider.

During the pilot phase, Doordarshan will test the reception quality of the broadcast coverage. Attendant things like a revenue structure or advertising opportunities will come later. It will also help Nokia and Doordarshan gauge the acceptability.
